Burnstein/Rethink/Caravan/Musikskolan

Burnstein Orchestra visited Umefolk last year and their gig on saturday night was by many considered to be the peak of the festival.

This balkan-rock-party-classic band consisting of 25 young musicians comes from Hammarkullen, Gothenburg. This year they are back, both as guest artists in Allspel, and in their own show in Studion.

Aarhus is the European Capital of Culture from where the enormous folk music exchange Rethink Folk Music is arranged. Tunes that have been dug up from archives in Hammerfest, Wroclaw, Silkeborg, Cesis, Bretange, Verdal, Skanderborg, Riga, Ås, Aarhus och Umeå are dusted of and sent throughout Europe for contemplation and remoulding. The results will be shared at workshops during the festival week at Midgårdsskolan where around 30 young international folk musicians are gathered.

Etno Caravan is a group with musicians from all over the world. In 2014 they went on a tour by bus and collected tunes on their way, but also performed in Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland. Finally they arrived in Umeå for a week of concerts and workshops.

After Umefolk Etno Caravan will take the bus to Tärnaby and Hemavan and play in the heat cabin during Hemavan Folk Fest 28/2-4/3.

Umeå Music School´s folk music groups Folkfräs, Folkhettan and Appendix makes one of the bases in the citys folk music life. They will play tunes from South America, North Africa, Eastern Europe and Västerbotten, Sweden.
